Pack Leadership Training

"All" Obedience Training Programs and Behavior Treatment Plans include "pack leadership training".

All dogs know the criteria of a pack leader and all dogs know that every pack has to have a leader to survive. This can be confusing to us at times because the canine perception of a leader can be different than ours. Since it is extremely stressful to most dogs to be without a leader, occasionally a dog may attempt to maneuver its way (sometimes by displaying dominance or force) into the "alpha" position in a human setting if it sees no evidence of a leader in order to insure the pack's survival. A lot of dogs forced into this leadership role become stressed with the responsibility. This can lead to a myriad of behavior issues such as using aggression to maintain their status. When these dogs see evidence that a leader has "emerged", they will usually gladly relinquish the position. My training methods will teach you the posturing and social rituals that make sense to your dog in order to enable you to lead benevolently without having to physically dominate.

In-Home Obedience Training Programs

Dogs are by nature social creatures who are happiest when they feel that they are contributing members of their family (or pack). Since most pet dogs are no longer required to herd livestock, guard the chickens or pull carts, we need to give them alternative tasks and skills that they can perform in order to earn the things that they like and to enhance their "sense of worth". Obedience Training provides your dog with these skills.

Your dog will value your attention, praise, treats and privileges a lot more when they know that they earned them. With obedience training you and your dog learn to more efficiently communicate with each other and develop a bond for life. Your dog will now have a self-fulfilling purpose and will consistently try to find more ways to please you.

Your dog's motivation to learn will never be to avoid punishment. Your dog will learn that doing the things you want will get it the things that it wants. The training sessions will become the highpoint of your dog's day because we always learn the most when we are having fun.

Puppy Training Programs

Even with positive based training methods, the importance of recognizing and understanding the early developmental periods is essential to prevent any inadvertent negative associations that can adversely affect a dog for life. These programs will give you the tools you need in order to lead and develop your puppy during its "first fear imprint period", the "optimum bonding period" and the "general socialization period".

New Puppy Orientation      Ideal for "New Arrivals" and under 12 weeks.

Puppy Kindergarten           Great for puppies from 7 weeks to 6 months of age.

For The Rescue Dog

New Rescue Dog Orientation.....All Ages

This program addresses the special needs of new rescue dog or puppy owners who adopt from shelters or just take in a stray. The personal history and genetic makeup of these dogs is frequently unknown and proper socialization should begin immediately. They will receive every advantage they deserve to begin a new life with you, their rescuer.

Evaluating Your Unique Situation

In-Home Evaluation

A thorough evaluation performed at your home will determine the criteria for a "4 component" treatment plan customized for your individual situation. The information gathered will assist us in treating the actual cause and not just the symptom/s.
